Howard Porter Directors
HOWARD PORTER was established in Fremantle Western Australia in 1936 as one of Australia's pioneering coachbuilders. The Porter family managed the business for three generations before selling in the early 1990's. The family business lost its focus with the new corporate overseas owners and struggled through most of the 1990's.
The current directors purchased the business in 2004 with a vision to reinstate it as an industry leader in the supply of road transport equipment. Focusing on its strengths, the directors immediately began to restructure the company. The majority of the semi trailers and truck bodies manufactured up to 2004 were custom builds. A clearly defined range of fast moving equipment was established in order to improve efficiency, reduce build times and deliver quality affordable transport equipment to customers.
In 2006 the directors purchased rival semi trailer manufacturing business SFM Engineering based in Bellevue, WA. In 2008 a $12M expansion and upgrade of the Spearwood manufacturing facility began and in 2010 the company consolidated and centralised operations to the Spearwood facility.
HOWARD PORTER acquired Jackson Trailer Bodies in 2009 based out of Victoria and continued it's expansion plans with the purchase of Steelbro, the worlds best valued side lifter early in 2015. Steelbro has an international reputation for container handling equipment design innovation and manufacturing excellence. For over 136 years Steelbro has produced imaginative and successful solutions for the container transport industry. The Steelbro side lifter sets the benchmark for robust design and reliability. Expaning Steelbro's global footprint is especially important for HOWARD PORTER heading into 2016 and beyond.
